Paths of Glory

Updated: Apr 14, 2019

What would you do if you were stuck in a situation like this? In the 1957 anti-war today PG-13 rated Stanley Kubrick film Paths of Glory, starring Kirk Douglas, Ralph Meeker, and Adolphe Menjou, 3 soldiers from World War I are put on trial for cowardice. However, this is actually being done so General Georges Broulard can keep attention away from him when he issued 100 of his soldiers on a suicide mission and gave a reckless order to fire on the soldiers. Sent to defend the men is Colonel Dax, but with the General’s power, it looks like he might win. If he wins, the 3 men will be executed as an example.

The story was very interesting to watch and it took it’s time, not being brought into the main conflict early on, but slowly showing the events unfold. The characters are likable and you want to see the 3 men survive. I don’t think this is among the best movies, but it is one I recommend.

Overall, this film is one that if you like the idea, go check it out. It is a good film in my opinion.
