There is nothing fantastic about this movie. I watched the superhero movie Fantastic Four, released on August 7th, 2015. Starring Miles Teller, Kate Mara, and Michael B. Jordan, it is based on the Fantastic Four comic books by Marvel. Directed by Josh Trank, it is rated PG-13.
When scientists work on an interdimensional transporter and travel to another world, they get infected with superpowers. Trying to develop their powers, they must work as a team when the last scientist believed to be dead, Victor Von Doom, is revealed to be alive and wants to destroy the Earth. Can they pull this off?
This is the third Marvel movie review I have done in a row, after my negative review of Hulk in July and my positive review of Deadpool & Wolverine in August. I decided out of curiosity to check out one of the most despised superhero movies ever made. It was even worse than you would think. There are many different points to bring up on how it failed so spectacularly.
There is nothing cool about this movie. It tries so hard to be a dark and gritty movie. Even ignoring that it does not fit the tone of the comics at all, it results in there being no fun. The only actual superhero work is done in the climax. In fact, they do not even get their powers until almost halfway into an hour and 40-minute movie. Everything before that takes way too long, complete with showing Reed and Ben as children. With what I mentioned, I find it hard to believe that anyone would want to rewatch this movie.
The actors and their characters are terrible. Miles Teller as Reed Richards, Kate Mara as Sue Storm, Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm, and Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm have no emotion and are not believable in their interactions. They are also quite unlikable, coming off as rather selfish. Most of the performances are also bad. I will give credit to Toby Kebbell as Victor Von Doom. While his reasoning for his evil plan is stupid, he does at least manage to be memorable. It helps that he has the only good scene in the movie, killing people while walking down a hallway.
The plot has so many problems to it. I already mentioned how unlikable the main heroes are, which is a problem when you are supposed to root for them. Sue gets powers even though she did not go to the other dimension like the others did. The biggest problem with the plot is that by the end, it really does not feel like our heroes changed at all apart from gaining powers. Hostilities that were there just disappear for the sake of the plot.
Overall, this is quite a terrible movie. It is even more boring than Hulk was. It completely disgraces the Fantastic Four and Marvel in a unique way. Not only is this the worst Marvel movie I have ever seen, I think it is up there with Batman & Robin as one of the worst superhero movies ever made.
Soon, it will be time to vote. It is more important than ever to educate ourselves about voting. So many people fail to see the importance of voting, resulting in those people not voting at all. The argument is that one vote does not matter. When many people have that mentality and do not vote, it adds up. Helping what you believe in come closer to happening is a patriotic thing you can do for your country. You can gain voter education by looking at https://www.vote.org/ and watch news channels that stay in the political middle and not to the left or right, such as NPR. The more people become educated, the more successful an election is likely to be.
